Supported by Deloitte LLP, Summerside’s Economic Development Office (EDO) recently completed its fourth Triage Business Retention & Expansion (BR+E) survey. Launched in 2018, this biennial survey provides an in-depth analysis of the city's business environment, gathering valuable feedback from local businesses about growth opportunities, challenges, and their overall experience operating in Summerside.If you’re seeking a location where your investment can grow – both financially and sustainably – Summerside is the place for you. BR+E initiatives play a vital role in understanding and addressing the needs of the business community. In an era dominated by social media narratives and selective headlines, Summerside focuses on direct engagement with business owners and managers to gain insights into their challenges and develop solutions specifically tailored to their needs.
Key Findings: Business Environment in Summerside
Diverse Business Base: Among respondents, 13% were externally owned, and 23% sold products or services outside Prince Edward Island. Summerside continues to attract interest from brands and chains, drawn by competitive space and labour costs.
Positive Performance Metrics: Aggregated business performance indicators – covering revenues, hiring, and growth expectations – achieved a score of +5.3 on a scale of -10 to +10. This surpasses the national 5-year average of +4.1, showcasing a strong and thriving business environment.
High Satisfaction: A notable 88% of respondents reported being “somewhat satisfied” or “very satisfied” with doing business in Summerside. Additionally, 86% would recommend the city to others considering expansion or relocation, aligning closely with national averages.
