Government of Canada Partners with MDS Coating Technologies Corporation to Drive Innovation in Aerospace Nano-Coating Technologies

Slemon Park, Prince Edward Island – March 21, 2025

The Government of Canada has announced a strategic collaboration with MDS Coating Technologies Corporation to advance cutting-edge aerospace nano-coating technologies. This initiative will not only enhance Canada’s role in the global aerospace supply chain but also contribute to reducing the industry’s carbon footprint.

As part of the ongoing commitment to foster innovation and create well-paying jobs, the Government of Canada is investing through the Strategic Innovation Fund to support MDS Coating Technologies’ ambitious $100 million project. The funding will help expand the company’s facility on Prince Edward Island (PEI), effectively doubling its production capacity.

MDS Coating Technologies, one of PEI’s largest manufacturing employers with around 100 employees, is at the forefront of environmentally friendly innovations. The company specializes in developing nano-coating technologies for aerospace engine components, such as compressor blades and fan blades. These advanced coatings not only enhance engine performance but also reduce fuel consumption and engine wear, leading to lower maintenance costs and decreased carbon emissions.

The Province of PEI is also contributing to this project with a $7 million loan, reinforcing the collaborative effort to grow the region's aerospace sector and strengthen its competitive edge in the global market.

This partnership reflects the Government of Canada’s dedication to building a stronger, carbon-neutral economy, creating new opportunities for Islanders, and advancing environmental sustainability in the aerospace industry.
