City of Summerside and BluWave-ai Expand Groundbreaking AI Partnership to Drive Renewable Energy and Boost Canadian Innovation

March 12, 2025 – SUMMERSIDE, PE – The City of Summerside is proud to highlight its longstanding partnership with BluWave-ai, a leading Canadian artificial intelligence company, in a collaboration that continues to strengthen Canada’s energy innovation sector and support national “Buy Canadian” initiatives.

Since 2018, the City of Summerside has worked closely with BluWave-ai to pioneer the deployment of AI-powered renewable energy management. This collaboration led to Canada’s first automated real-time AI energy dispatch system and helped establish Summerside as a national leader in sustainable energy solutions.

“This partnership represents more than just cutting-edge technology—it’s about creating jobs, strengthening Canadian innovation, and building a clean energy future,” said Mayor Dan Kutcher. “Summerside’s leadership in renewable energy and AI reflects our commitment to sustainable growth and economic development for our community.”

Key milestones in the partnership include:

  • Canada’s first AI-driven real-time energy dispatch system (2019)
  • Launch of the Canadian Smart Grid AI Center of Excellence in Summerside (2022)
  • North America’s first 100% time-shifted solar-powered concert (2022)
  • Over $6.5 million in direct revenue, federal funding, and U.S. investment
BluWave-ai’s AI SaaS solutions—such as the Smart Grid Optimizer, EV Everywhere, and EV Fleet Orchestrator—have helped utilities optimize energy operations while reducing costs and carbon emissions. The company’s Summerside success laid the foundation for international growth, with clients now in Japan, India, the UAE, Europe, and the United States.

“BluWave-ai’s journey from Summerside to global markets proves the value of early Canadian adoption and inter-provincial collaboration,” said Devashish Paul, CEO of BluWave-ai. “With global uncertainty and rising trade tensions, now is the time to double down on supporting homegrown innovation. Summerside’s vision made this possible.”

Invest Ottawa echoed this sentiment, praising BluWave-ai as an example of Ottawa’s thriving AI and cleantech sector. "Their success speaks to Canada’s global potential in sustainable innovation,” said Sonya Shorey, President & CEO of Invest Ottawa.

With over $16 million raised—including a $9.5 million Series A—BluWave-ai continues to grow, positioning both Ottawa and Summerside at the forefront of AI and clean energy.

The City of Summerside remains committed to advancing smart, sustainable growth through bold partnerships, reinforcing its reputation as a small city with big opportunities.
