Located in Summerside, PEI, and operated by Health PEI with support from the City of Summerside, PCH is an acute care hospital that balances medical revolution with community care: we are outfitted with a 110-bed capacity and a six-bed ICU and provides specialty services in Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Anesthesia, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, ENT, and Psychiatry. The hospital has an up-to-date emergency department supported 24/7 by a comprehensive lab and a diagnostic imaging department that include plain film, ultrasound, echosonography, and a 160 slice CT scanner. There are dedicated inpatient units for both medical and surgical patients as well as psychiatry, restorative care, palliative care and maternal child care (where our patients labour, birth and recover all in the same comfortable room that feels like home). Outpatient services include surgical services, mental health and addictions, diagnostic imaging, rehab services, lab services, ambulatory care nursing and specialty clinics, dialysis, and the provinces only Women’s Wellness Centre.

environment, we offer more resources than most other modern EDs.

Here in Summerside, our medical community consists of a group of dedicated professionals who work with advanced amenities to deliver only the highest level of service and care for Prince Edward Islanders.
The PCH Emergency Department is staffed with full-time dedicated Emergency Physicians, each of which is supported by family physicians with an interest in emergency medicine part-time. This department is made up of two trauma bays, a four-bed critical care unit, a seven-bed holding unit, and five treatment and procedure rooms, supporting approximately 24,000 visits per year.
We have a fully updated Helipad with access to tertiary care centres for our Island Emergency Medical Services, which provide paramedic services to the province.
Prince County Hospital is a family of well-meaning Doctors, Nurses, Janitors, Food Servers, and Administrators — and each and every one can attest that they feel lucky to work here!
This is in addition to 24/7 onsite security to enhance staff safety, a mental health crisis response team that operates 24/7, 24/7 RT support, 34 Registered Nursing staff, and both on-site homecare coordinators and pharmacy technicians.
